In June 2018, the Barbados government reintroduced tuition fees for Barbadian students at UWI, BCC, and Erdiston Teachers’ Training College. In exchange, students must participate in approved community service hours each year. This initiative, known as the GIVE BACK program, aims to invest in the country's human capital and applies to all state-sponsored tertiary education students. The policy supports the government's commitment to funding tertiary education for Barbadian nationals and aligns with the country's longstanding tradition of providing tuition-free education at all levels. It emphasizes the civic responsibility of benefiting from state support by giving back to the community.
